Originating among women activists in internal displacement camps, the Bureau Des Avocats Internationaux (BAI) and the Institute For Justice & Democracy In Haiti (IJDH) collaborate with women-oriented and women-led organizations, based in Haiti and the United States, to enforce the rule of law and strengthen Haiti’s justice systems commitment to protecting women and girls.
IJDH and BAI set out to defeat the systemic tolerance that exacerbates rape, educate the legal system and society about the impact of gender-based violence, and establish precedents that will make the justice system respond equitably for gender-based violence.
Our collaboration works by leveraging our international platform to bring awareness and expand our network of solidarity with victims, connecting them with grassroots women’s groups, accompanying them through the judicial process, and guiding them to the appropriate healthcare resources. By empowering women and girls, we are elevating their ability to engage in the workforce, with their families actively, and in society as a whole.?
After years of UN Peacekeeper sexual misconduct towards vulnerable populations in Haiti, BAI filed paternity suits in Haitian courts on behalf of children fathered by UN Peacekeepers.
